Fall/Winter staple items

21 Sep

I have come up with my list of Must-Buys for the Fall/Winter season. These are all items that I’ve always wanted, but never got around to purchasing for various reasons. I wanted to focus on purchasing a lot of staple items that I can use over and over again throughout the years.

1. Burberry trench.

Classic. Every working woman should have this in her wardrobe. Especially working in the San Francisco Bay Area, the fall/winter season gets very chilly and wet, so this would be a very good investment piece. I haven’t narrowed down my choices for the trench, and I’ll have to go to a Burberry boutique to try on all their styles and choose a color. Prices range from $995~$1495.

2. leather jacket

Okay, this gets trickier. I want to invest in some quality pieces, but a lot of leather jackets are very trendy. Can I find a leather jacket that I can wear for years and years to come, or will I have to retire it after a season or so? As much as I’m in love with the Balenciaga biker jacket (pictured above), it doesn’t seem like a reality for me, priced at almost $3000. A classic leather jacket will do, but I will have to research for a perfect one that will suit me. Otherwise, since I love this cross-zip style, I may opt for a cheaper alternative, such as this one:

$218 from Victoria’s Secret. Much more affordable, plus VS always has massive sales, so I’m sure I can snag this for a reasonable price.

3. Hunter Wellies

I desperately need rainboots. After last winter (rain almost EVERY single day!!) I don’t think I can survive this year in my 4″ boots or Uggs everyday. I need something conservative and practical to wear to work, and I think these work. I am so upset I missed the boat on the $58 special from Restoration Hardware, but I’m sure I can stalk the sales site to find myself a deal on these. Black is the safest color for work, but I wouldn’t mind getting these in navy or dark green. Price: $125.

4. Tailoring clothes I already own (but haven’t worn)

I don’t know if it’s a good thing or what, but even if I buy the smallest size available, it’s still too big for me. Especially skirts. I have two really cute pencil skirts that are too big for me that I need to tailor. One Tory Burch skirt I bought seriously one year ago!! It has been buried somewhere underneath the rest of my clothes and I finally rediscovered it when I was moving in with the DH. The other skirt is a Marc Jacobs courderoy skirt I purchased at a great price on Outnet but seriously WAY too big, and it’s a size 0!

One major article of clothing I must alter is my prized possession… a Balmain coat from my grandmother. She wore it once and I “stole” it from her (ahhh long story), but it is a size 8. I am ultra nervous about altering this piece, I need to hunt down a reputable tailor that has altered coats before. Who knows how much this is going to cost? I wouldn’t be surprised if this sets me back more than my wedding gown alteration!

So that’s it! That’s my Must-Buy list for the fall/winter season, and I am going to STICK to it! I may decide to edit this list, but so far I think I’m set. I know I’ll be very happy at the end of the season when I have my quality investment pieces instead of loads of crap that I usually acquire from sales. Quality over quantity… patience is a virtue.

Shifting Focus

12 Aug

It’s taking some time to adjust to having less money in my personal checking account. As I said in an earlier post, I only get to keep 10% of my income to spend freely (shopping, manis, etc) and so far it’s not looking too good.

Some expenses that are non-negotiable:

1. $80~$100/mo. on my gel nails;

2. $75 every other month for hair cuts;

3. $50/mo. for various services w/ my Esthetician

Whatever is left over from my Allowance, I’ll have to start saving! This method is ok for now, since I don’t have anything major on my Must-Buy list. The only thing on my wishlist so far is the same thing that’s been on it since last year– Nude Patent VPs. I’m on the waiting list for these sold out shoes… which, I must say, is one disorganized waiting list!! A scrap of paper with my name and number on it, stuffed inside a binder is NOT a waiting list! Maybe they lost my contact info… but I digress.

On another note, I just blew my entire “savings” on a precious Black RGGH Bal Part Time. Pics to come… if I feel like it. This will be my last splurge in a long time!

(…but didn’t I say that just a few months ago when I purchased my chataigne Bal city? hehe)

5 Oct

I went to NM this past week after work, with the intent of NOT purchasing anything (of course this never happens). I just wanted to go check out the new Fall Balenciaga colors in person before I eventually ordered my next Bbag online. I went in expecting to fall in love with either the Tempete or the Raisin, but instead I found myself falling for the Pourpre!! It’s weird how colors never turn out the way they really are in pics. This whole time I thought Pourpre was a red, but it’s actually more of a magenta. It is the most beautiful color I’ve seen yet!

So I’ve decided my next Bbag is going to be a Giant City in Pourpre. *LOVE*

Okay, so what did I end up buying at NM? Not the City… But I ended up getting a pair of Louboutins. :p

This is the first time I’ve paid MSRP+absurd CA sales tax on a pair of Loubs, but this was one of those OMGIMUSTHAVETHOSESHOESRIGHTNOW moments, so I grabbed the last pair in my size (in the entire nation!!!)before I could change my mind.

No pics yet, I’m waiting for them to ship out of Bellvue, WA. Will post pics later =)

My brother is graduating from college this weekend! I went shopping at Valley Fair today to buy him a graduation gift. Originally I was thinking of buying him a schedule book or a pen that he could use when interviewing, but I came across this deal at Nordstrom’s I couldn’t resist! So I ended up buying him a watch instead. I got such an amazing deal!

I hope he likes it!

I get really scared of taking out my pure white Balenciaga purse! Knowing myself, it’s only a matter of time until I get an unpleasant stain on it (*knocks on wood*). So I don’t take out my BBag as much as I’d like. I never take it out when I wear jeans (dye stain) or any dark colored clothing. Which means I only take her out when I’m dressed in white, pink, or any other light spring-y colors!

Jacket: Tulle

Shirt: Gainer

Vest: vintage rabbit fur

Pants: Banana Republic

Necklaces: unbranded, bought in Japan

Bracelets: Swarovski

Purse: Balenciaga

I’m also playing around with my new camera to see which lighting works best. Bear with me!
